Collection of Acts,
Collection of Acts is a series of curatorial projects that promote contemporary art and contemporary performance as a voice in urban public spaces, allowing art events to interact with a wider range of citizens as a way to spark the innate vitality of urban spaces.
In 2017, Collection of Acts made its debut as a curatorial unit in the Jing’an district during the second season of Shanghai Urban Space Art. Since then Acts and Pathway’s has been deeply involved in the development and spatial design of this curatorial plan.
The site of the first assembly was the old abandoned Shanghai Metallurgical and Mining Machinery Factory. This space itself was in stark contrast with the fierce urbanization of Shanghai.
Acts and Pathway’s accepted the commission, using the form found in flea markets for inspiration, we helped the curators design an unexpected exhibition in the factory. We borrowed the shape of the simple bazaar tent and developed a graphic look from the site warning signs, ultimately giving the Collection of Acts a temporary blown-up feel. On the opening day, artists and creatives came together with residents for the community and members of the audience to reinvigorate an old factory that had lost its vitality.
