Jointly commissioned by Shanghai Minsheng Art Museum and Shanghai Vanke, Meditations on the Urban Spectacle was curated by Wang Yiquan, the founding partner of Acts and Pathways, with Professor Li Xiangning, Dean of College of Architecture and Urban Planning at Tongji University, as the academic adviser, and Acts and Pathways as the exhibition designer. The exhibition invited a group of artists, researchers, and architecture collectives whose diverse practices all addressed radical urbanism. By reflecting on the “spectacle” through their works, the exhibition proposed a new way of seeing: to meditate on the spectacle.

This exhibition took the historical building Sun Ke Villa as a site-specific environment to host the works that investigate the complex landscapes in China’s urban development. Here we present archival materials from the exhibition, including the exhibition brochure, photo documents of the participating artist Zhang Liaoyuan’s work Autumn Breeze, a playlist selected by the participating artist DJ Cavia in response to the exhibition theme, and episodes from the podcast City Notes(Cheng Ji).

《都市观奇》展览由上海民生现代美术馆和上海万科联合委托，由活络空间设计事务所创始合伙人王懿泉策展，由同济大学建筑与城市规划学院院长李翔宁教授担任学术主持，活络团队担纲展览设计。展览邀请了一批在激烈都市化背景下开展多元实践的艺术家与建筑团体及研究员，透过他们的作品反思“奇观”，提出一种新的观看之道——观奇。

本次展览以历史建筑孙科别墅为特定场域，呈现了中国城市发展进程中的微妙景观。在此我们展出该展览的档案资料，包括项目介绍册页，参展艺术家张辽源作品《秋风》的展览现场照片，音乐人DJ Cavia回应展览而甄选的歌单，策展人特约播客《城记》的主题节目等文献。
