A Weaving of Urban Life,
Exhibition Design

DATE 日期:
June, 2023

‘A Weaving of Urban Life’ is an exhibition project curated and designed by AP, commissioned by China Overseas Land & Investment LTD., completed in June 2023. The exhibition hall is located at the intersection of Feihong Road and Xuchang Road in Yangpu District, exploring the transformation of urban areas and the evolution of living forms from an open and integrated perspective. Unlike traditional real estate exhibition projects, this project not only needed to ensure the cultural attributes of the content and the highlights of architectural design but also had to fulfill the function of a commercial real estate sales exhibition hall. Balancing cultural content with commercial demands was the biggest challenge throughout the project.

Our first goal was to bridge the opposition between sales demands and cultural content starting from the content itself. We aimed to introduce the developer’s perspective into the narrative, providing more accurate historical context to make the information more objective and comparative. Ultimately, we constructed an exhibition structure that explores the dynamic relationship between urban development and residents’ living needs from three dimensions: urban blocks, community connections, and living experience.

In the design of the exhibition, we avoided using large physical displays and used lightweight materials such as aluminum and acrylic to create a sense of visual lightness. When customizing the pattern of the aluminum, we extracted the logo of this property. These holes provided function for hanging exhibits, and by customizing hooks, we significantly reduced the damage to the displays during the installation process.

Acts and Pathways is a spatial practice which takes a multi-disciplinary approach to design, it aims to inject metropolitan areas with vitality. We focus mainly on contemporary culture and society as a whole, prioritizing urban spatial projects that demand to be tailored in both content and form. Founded by a designer and a curator the team at Acts and Pathways also come from many different backgrounds. The team approaches spaces by fusing in-depth research with latent narratives, focusing on the spatial experiences of inhabitants without emphasizing any signature form or style. Our creative practices, which bare stark contrast to that of traditional spatial design, shape a new mode of thinking about places, spaces, events, and buildings.
